Reopening in January 2021
I hope you have all had a good Christmas, despite the challenging circumstances, and have kept safe and well. School is officially closed to all pupils except those classed as vulnerable and those of critical workers. However, the latest guidance makes it very clear that children of critical workers should only be in school if child care is actually needed.
Children with at least one parent or carer who is a critical worker can go to school or college if required, but parents and carers should keep their children at home if they can.
This is because the purpose of closing schools is to reduce the transmission rates of Covid. Therefore, it is really important that you only use the school for child care if you really need it, not just because you meet the criteria for being a critical worker. We are booked for the next two weeks, and will continue book places on a short term basis so that we can check numbers for safety.

I am sure you will now be aware of the Government announcement regarding the return of primary schools. It has been confirmed that schools in certain Tier 4 areas will remain closed to most children in January including primary schools in the area of Broxbourne, and learning will be online for most children. Holy Trinity is within this area, so in line with Government guidance we will only be open for children of critical workers and vulnerable children from Tuesday 5th January.

If you are a critical worker, as defined in the list above, and you need your child to attend school, you should now have completed the survey. Information will be provided on Monday 4th January about places, and arrangements for school provision.

Keeping children safe online
A parent information booklet has been published online by ThinkUKnow. This gives lots of information about ways in which you can keep children safe online, particularly useful over the Christmas break.
We are having a new website designed for us and have a Facebook page soon to be launched to try to make our school information even more accessible. Please look at the Acceptable Use letter and information attached with the latest newsletter. This is also on the Newsletter page of this site, on the Parents tab.
We expect everyone to be safe and sensible to protect all members of our community. Please remember to wear your masks on the school site.

We have published the ‘Catch up Premium Plan’. ‘Catch-up’ Premium is the DFE funding which is equivalent to £80 per pupil over the year for support to ‘catch-up’ following Covid.
The plan covers the academic year, and has the way in which we plan to make the best use of the funding.

JUST TALK WEEK
After a difficult year, Hertfordshire’s ‘Just Talk’ mental health campaign is hoping to help more young people than ever look after their mental health. This years’ Just Talk Week is taking place exclusively online, from 16 – 22 November.
Just Talk is a positive mental health campaign, developed by a network of more than 30 agencies, and steered by Hertfordshire’s young people. Taking this approach ensures the campaign addresses the issues that matter to young people, whilst communicating with them in a consistent and meaningful way. We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health. COVID-19 may have triggered new feelings of anxiety and uncertainty which your child hasn’t experienced before. It’s therefore more important than ever that every person knows how to look after their mental health and wellbeing – and how to seek help if they need it. This year’s campaign week is virtual, so you and/or your children will be able to access a range of webinars taking place throughout the week and hear useful tips on social media.

While it is clear that Christmas is not going to be quite the same this year, we are planning a ‘new normal’ Christmas at Holy Trinity. We will be showing the children a DVD of the live pantomime ‘Dick Whittington’, we will be having our usual Christmas activities including lunch (9th Dec) in our ‘bubbles’, and we are working out how to have some form of Nativity towards the end of term.
We have looked at the guidance for Christmas cards and we will be able to do this, but within classes only. Children will be able to brings cards in for children within their class, labelled with their names on a Monday or Tuesday. They will then go into a tray for a period of quarantine, and will be handed out on Fridays.

We have the results of the Parent/carer Questionnaire. Though there were a small number of responses, the results were very positive:

If your child is isolating but not ill, they can still take part in the learning. If you are unable to access Google Classroom, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can support you.

Please remember that all of us must continue to follow the latest guidance from DFE/Public Health England: https://bit.ly/2BdyD26. If your child or anyone in your household shows symptoms you must get a Covid 19 test and isolate. Please do not put yourselves and others at risk. You must also inform the school so that we can take the appropriate measures. If we get a confirmed case/s we may have to close a class ‘bubble’ or potentially the school, so please be sensible. We have guidance to follow and will have to follow the advice we are given in terms of action to take following a confirmed case. We will expect you come to school immediately and take your child home if they are showing symptoms.
Should you be shielding or have any concerns about your child coming into school please let us know. Guidance Covid-19 Symptoms
The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:
- a new continuous cough
- a high temperature
- a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms above you must stay at home and arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange.
